Introduction

St Albert’s is a Voluntary Aided Catholic Primary School situated in Knowsley with 207 pupils on role aged between 3 and 11 years.  Most children are from the local area of Stockbridge Village, almost all are White British.  The proportion of children eligible for free school meals is high and the proportion of children with learning difficulties and/or disabilities is average.  The school is one of 10 local primary schools that have joined together with their feeder secondary school to form the North Huyton Learning Collaborative.  In association with the New Deal for Community Project this partnership is developing collaborative working, the sharing of good practice and the raising of standards across all schools in the area.

In October 2006 the school received an excellent OFSTED inspection report.  The school was judged as ‘Good’ overall, with the care, guidance and support for pupils graded as ‘Outstanding’.  Inspectors also praised the behaviour of the children and the quality of relationships between staff and pupils.

The school has recently been successful in gaining the Basic Skills Quality Mark a national accolade that recognises that the school provides a framework for the continuous improvement of the basic skills of all pupils in the school.
The school has also been awarded the prestigious Investors In People Standard which reflects the value that is placed on all those who work at St Albert’s.
