Slime Workshops

When Maths meets Science it leads to Slime - thanks to a fun packed workshop run by Teachers from Industry on behalf of the NHLC.

'These workshops link what children read in a text book with what they'll encounter in real life' explained Teacher from Industry Wendy Skilling. ' We use maths to measure liquids which we then mix to create a fun slime pupils can play with. If the measurements are slightly out, their slime won't come out right, it'll be too gooey or too hard.'

What might have otherwise been a tedious task, measueing very precise amounts of liquid, suddenly becomes a challenge pupils relish - competition to create the perfect slime is fierce!

Later in the session pupils also have the chance to test their budgeting skills by working out how much sline they can give away with a science magazine whilst still making a profit. It is a real world challenge which gives children a valuable insight into how they might apply the things they learn at school in later life.

'Engaging children, sparking their interest is key to getting them to remember things'  Wendy concluded. 'And what child doesn't love slime.'
