Leaping Festival 2009

04 Aug 09

On Wednesday 8th July the North Huyton Learning Collaborative hosted its’ first ‘Leaping into Language Festival’ at River Alt Resource Centre and Youthy in North Huyton. The event was attended by Reception pupils, teachers, teaching assistants and volunteers from Longview Primary, St Columba’s RC Primary, St Aloysius RC Primary, Park View Primary and St Dominic’s RC Primary.

External organisations including Urban Strawberry Lunch and Happy Hippos attended the event to provide activities based around the topics of music, storytelling and clothes. Whilst other KMBC departments including Music and Performing Arts, Healthy Schools, Community Cooks and Kevin Bushall (Park Ranger) contributed sessions around music and sound, healthy eating and cooking and wild animals. The pupils were also treated to a special lunchtime surprise with the arrival of guests from Merseyside Fire and Rescue, Merseyside Police, Knowsley School Health Service and local lollypop man, Alan Lang who carried out question and answer sessions with the pupils about what they do. All the pupils, staff and volunteers that attended the day thoroughly enjoyed themselves especially at the Teddy Bears picnic during lunch where they all met ‘Harry the Teddy’!’
