Creative Curriculum

09 Feb 09

Nine Tree TudorsOn Wednesday 4th February 2009 teachers from schools across Knowsley came together at Christ the King Centre for Learning to hear about the various Creative Curriculum models that have been developed by schools within the North Huyton Learning Collaborative (NHLC).

Over the past two years, the NHLC have been inspiring and enthusing pupils by taking an innovative approach to learning, swapping traditional English or maths lessons for more exciting topic-based learning. This work culminated with the launch of the NHLC 'Creative Curriculum Resources'  on the 4th February. The pack has been produced to share best practice across schools and provide teachers with a rigorous assesment framework which underpins the creative curriculum within their schools.

An example of the creative curriculum at Nine Tree primary can be seen opposite, where pupils chose a 'Tudors' topic. As part of this, they designed presentations in ICT, wrote Tudor diary extracts in English and created a Henry VIII collage in art.

This method of teaching has proven extremely successful and was praised by inspectors from Ofsted recently at St Aloysius Catholic Primary.
