Access to Learning Team

The Collaborative has recently undergone a period of change – adapting its model of working to ensure everything the organisation does complements and enhances the changing face of education. Successful projects from the past few years, such as The Big Write , Creative Curriculum, Leaping into Language and Writers in Residence will continue to grow with the support of Parent Mentors, Teaching Assistants and the vitally the NHLC Access to Learning Team who will support pupils at the most vital times in their school career.

The aim of the project is to increase pupil’s enthusiasm and attainment in reading, writing and maths – ultimately to achieve the best results at examination level. Transition support classes primarily are interactive – bringing subjects to life by making them more relevant and continuing the NHLC ethos of creative learning

Ben Owens (Advanced Skills Teacher) has recently been appointed as Access to Learning Team Coordinator and is currently working with Year 7 and 8 pupils at Christ the King Centre for Learning supporting their Literacy development through a variety of activities. Sandra Brassington is also working as part-time Access to Learning Teacher currently in St Columba's Catholic Primary School where she is supporting pupils who are performing FFT Predictions.
